Normally, presentation rifles are reserved for occasions and individuals considerably above our pay-grades. Firearm engraving is, after all, an art. Art is not cheap.

Henry Repeating Arms Company now offers “the rest of us” an affordable way to give a shooting enthusiast a gift that will never be forgotten: a personally inscribed Golden Boy. It’s not only a great gift hanging on the wall, it’s been thought out by the Henry folks so you can have a personalized rifle you can shoot, too.

The presentation unit starts with a standard Henry Golden Boy in .22LR, .22 Magnum, or .17HMR.

A personalized receiver cover is then ordered directly from the parts department at Henry Repeating Arms. When it arrives (allow 45 days, they say), you simply remove the standard receiver cover and replace it with your embellished one.

In effect, you have two guns on a single action: a production unit for shooting, and a display gun when it’s wearing the personalized cover.

If you’re like me and have always wanted a personalized, embellished gun but couldn’t stand the thoughts of a gun that couldn’t be used, this certainly removes that objection. It’s a unique gift for any one of a variety of occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, and any one of a number of achievements. Examples we’ve seen include graduations, military service, father’s day, retirements and “first guns” given by proud parents or grandparents.

Whatever the occasion, the personalized receiver cover certainly turns an already attractive working gun into a knockout presentation piece.

Ordering is really simple, too. After purchasing your standard Henry Golden Boy in one of the three calibers, you then order the personalized receiver cover with up to 20 words of special inscription. In about 45 days, you’ll receive the new receiver cover, mailed directly to you, since it’s a cover for a firearm, not a firearm.

Follow the instructions that accompany the receiver cover to remove the standard cover and replace it with the personalized unit and, in a matter of minutes you have a presentation rifle that can convert back into a shooting rifle, again in only minutes. Of course, the Golden Boy will also shoot when wearing the personalized receiver cover, but you might not want to risk marring the engraving by taking it out in the field.

Henry’s also commissioned a Wall Display unit for showing off your personalized Golden Boy or any other Henry Rifle you happen to own. It’s made of American black walnut with a gray velvet backing and an engraved brass plaque that bears the Henry logo and motto: “Load on Sunday, Shoot all Week Long”.

Combined with the personalized receiver cover, the wall plaque helps complete a personalized rifle that is guaranteed to impress the lucky recipient.
