Smith & Wesson Expands Military & Police Pistol Series
With Compact Version
M&P Compact Pistol Now Available in 9mm
Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 154-year old firearms maker, announces that its Military & Police (M&P) Pistol Series has been expanded with the introduction of a 9mm compact model, the M&P9c. The compact model incorporates a number of proven features that provide durable performance and exceptional shootability along with a dramatic reduction in felt recoil.
Designed primarily for law enforcement and military personnel as a backup or off-duty sidearm, the compact M&P pistol allows for easy concealment combined with minimal felt recoil. Engineered to the exacting standards of these professionals, the M&P9c provides an exceptional level of performance and safety. The compact M&P pistols will also be available to consumers through authorized Smith & Wesson retailers as a concealable firearm for personal protection.
“Since the M&P Pistol Series was introduced in November 2005, we believe it has helped to raise the global standard for service pistols,” said Tom Taylor, Smith & Wesson’s Vice President of Marketing. “To date, we have won business with numerous law enforcement agencies and many new departments are currently testing the M&P pistol. This success underscores the positive feedback we continue to receive from so many law enforcement agencies regarding the M&P family’s exceptional durability, ergonomics and safety features. When these professionals indicated the need for a compact version of the M&P with the same quality and features of the full-size pistols, we responded.”
The M&P9c features a 3.5-inch barrel with an overall length of 6.7 inches. The compact model is available with either a 10+1 or 12+1 capacity. The M&P Compact Series utilizes a steel dovetail mount front sight and a steel Novak® Lo-mount carry rear sight. Tritium sights are also available for low light conditions. A universal Picatinny style equipment rail has been incorporated for tactical lights and lasers. The polymer pistol has an empty weight of 21.7 ounces.
The compact pistols feature a Zytel polymer frame reinforced with a ridged stainless steel chassis and a thru-hardened black melonite stainless steel barrel and slide for durability; a passive trigger safety to prevent the pistol from firing if dropped; and a sear lever release that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm. A loaded chamber indicator is located on top of the slide, and an internal lock system is optional for military and law enforcement users. The pistol’s innovative ergonomic design is enhanced with three interchangeable grip sizes, allowing the user to customize grips in a matter of seconds. The firearm also features an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release, as well as an enlarged trigger guard designed to accommodate gloves. The Smith & Wesson lifetime service policy is standard with each pistol.
