Practice Drills

Today we’re going to show you four drills to improve your shooting skills.  We’re going to start off with a drill for accuracy and it’s not timed in anyway and you can make it yourself.

Basically you buy some sticky circles like this. Place them on the target so that they get smaller and smaller. Now what you’re going to try and do is shoot the center of each circle as steadily as you can. This drill is going to teach you breathing and trigger control and remember, don’t go fast. Make it accurate. Try and get as close to the center as you can. Let’s shoot one and see how it goes.

Now remember this drill is an accuracy drill. You should be concentrating on holding your crosshairs in the center of the dot, controlling your breathing, and getting as close to the center as you can each time. You can take as much time as you want on these. This is accuracy only.

Now the next drill we get to speed up a little.  We’re going to go the other way around.  Shoot the small one first, then speed up to the next one, and to the next one.  As the target gets bigger we got to go faster.  Remember this drill is to build up speed from target to target, while you’re squeezing the trigger. Cycle the bolt as smoothly and as quickly as you can.

For the next drill we’re going to use some MGM steel, so that we can practice our sling work and our positional shooting. You’re going to set yourself up with your sling strapped in and then you’re going shoot one round standing, one round kneeling, one round prone as quickly as you can. Let’s see how it goes.

Remember while your doing the drill, don't sacrifice your position for speed. The idea is to hit the target every time.  No one can hold the crosshairs dead center all the time. It will move, just keep bringing it back to the middle and squeeze the trigger until the gun goes off.  Be positive when you change position. Move smoothly.

Davison4-9

Last thing we’re going to show you today is that all the drills that you’ve done can be done dry, when you can’t make it to the range.  Dry fire drills are done with plastic or snap caps inside the weapon instead of live rounds so you can practice at home in a safe area. Basically everything is exactly the same except now there's no bullet in the gun. It’s just going to go click. Keep your positions the same, keep your trigger control the same, and your breathing. Dry fire drills are the key to being a good shooter because nobody can spend enough money on ammunition.
