Case Neck Preparation

In today’s reloading tip we are going to take a look at case uniforming and making sure that we have turned the outside of the neck diameter or, in some cases, people call this neck peeling. What I have done here is I have set up my case trimmer with the case neck turner with the auto feed. So to turn the outside and the inside of the case neck you simply install your casing and let the thread mechanism feed as you have a nice smooth cut around the outside diameter of the case mouth.

Continue to turn and pull the pilot back out of the case neck and this is what will give you a nice uniform case neck thickness around the entire circumference. Performing this case neck turning process will ensure that you have a good consistent case wall thickness around the entire circumference of the neck which will provide a consistent bullet tension, from case to case, and provide you the best accuracy possible in your hand loads.
