Sizer Die

Allan4-1

In today’s tip on reloading we are going to talk about the proper adjustment of your sizer die for optimum performance in a specific firearm. We are going to be reloading 7mm Remington magnum and using a gold medal match die set.  To adjust your sizer die is a two step process, the first of which we are going to talk about today and that is selecting a proper neck bushing for your specific cases.

Allan4-2

Since we are reloading a 7mm bullet we know the diameter is .284 thousandths of an inch.  We have already measured the case neck thickness and we know that we have .012 thousandths of an inch per side of the case so we simply take the .284 diameter from the bullet and add .012 thousandths per side so you are adding .024 thousandths, which gives us .308 diameter.  Your bullet is going to require at least two-thousandths neck tension so I have selected a .306 diameter neck bushing.

You simply drop the neck bushing into the top of the sizer die and install your decap assembly.  Now that we have selected the proper bushing we are ensured that we will have the best possible accuracy out of these hand loads.
