Case Trimming

Allan5-1

In today’s tip on reloading we are going to talk about case uniformity and how it applies to trimming your cases to the proper length.  When case trimming, you will want to be sure and refer to a reloading manual which will give you the proper length for every caliber.

In this case I am going to be using a case trimmer with the three-way cutter so it will actually trim to length and de-burr the inside and the outside of the case mouth at the same time.  You simply install the case into the shell holder and let the cutter come forward, as it trims to length, it will also do the de-burring. When it is completed you simply pull your case out and check it to make sure that you have the proper setting on your overall length.  Every time you fire a cartridge in your rifle the case length tends to stretch just a little, eventually creating an unsafe condition in your firearm. That’s why you will need to trim to a specified length after several firings. Additionally, this case to case consistency is what is going to enhance the performance and accuracy of your handloads.
