Sizer Die #2

Allan6-1

In today’s tip on reloading we are going to be talking about how to adjust your sizer die, to adjust for optimum headspace in your firearm’s chamber. Doing this is going to require the use of an RCBS precision mike and a couple of fired cases. You simply insert the fired case into the precision mike body and thread on the head space nut. In this case, you can see that the precision mike reads two thousandths above zero. We want to use this reference measurement of +two thousandths of an inch to adjust your sizer die for optimum headspace performance in your specific chamber.

Allan6-2

This is kind of a trial and error process in which you will measure full length and adjust your sizer die down in small increments until such time as you have bumped the shoulder back by to thousandths of an inch. As you can see we have now adjusted our sizer die so that the headspace reads zero which means that we have bumped the shoulder back by two thousandths of an inch.  Performing this process will not only improve the accuracy of your firearm, but also prevent the over working of the brass, which will extend the life of your cases.
