In today’s tip, I would like to talk about adjusting your seater die for optimum performance in a specific firearm. To do this will require the use of a precision mic. It is caliber specific and comes in a kit form. In the kit we have a free bore tool which we install into the chamber of your firearm. By closing the bolt it will bring the bearing surface of the bullet into contact with the lands. This is what we will use to take a reference dimension to adjust our seater die.

You install it into your precision mic. This reference measurement will be used to adjust your seater die for optimum performance.

As you can see here, our reference reading is one hundred fifty thousandths on the precision mic. Now using our reference measurement, I have pre-adjusted the seat die to be sure that I seat the bullet just ten thousandths less than our reference dimension. Doing this is going to ensure the optimum accuracy in your firearm and knowing that you have a safe condition in you chamber.
