Sighting In With Shooting USA - The Guns of The US Steel Championship

We’re sighting in on the new technology seen in the guns at the US Steel Championship. Yes, it’s about speed, but it’s also about reliability.

For champion BJ Norris, it’s his S&W 1911 with a Tactical Solutions 22-11 upper conversion for the rimfire competition. BJ likes keeping the feel the same for his shooting, whether he’s shooting rimfire or centerfire. In both cases, he uses the Aim Point Micro Scope.

Billy Abbate’s rimfire solution starts with at S&W Model 41 that gets a custom designed upper, built to mount a C-More red dot sight.  Ray Brandis of Ray-Vin Competitive Shooting Supplies did the cad design and production of the barrel and compensator.

David Olhasso showed up to shoot with one of the first M&P 9 Open Guns. The start was a four inch gun, but with a storm lake barrel with compensator and a Speed Shooter Specialties mag well.  EGW, Evolution Gun Works in Pennsylvania, did the work, including lightening the slide for faster lock time. The final touch, a 2.5 pound trigger pull.

Ladies Champ, Jessie Abbate shoots for Glock, so her open gun began as a Model 17, but with a new upper, with a KKM match barrel and compensator. S&J Customs from Georgia did the work, adding the scope mount to run with a C-More sight. Gun only hands

John, Greg, and Carlos take on all comers for bragging rights and a plaque. 

This is a complete set of steel targets in the shapes and sizes needed to set up any of the eight stages of fire from the Steel Championship, one at a time.

Measure out the distances, choose the steel shapes for the stage you’re practicing, and bang and clang away on your own range.

All of the target surfaces are built from 3/8ths inch AR-500 steel, an industry exclusive for Nevco.
