End of Trail Cowboy Action Shooting Championship
Dressing up like your cowboy heroes and shooting six guns, rifle and shotgun is the appeal that has attracted more than 65,000 members to the Single Action Shooting Society. Originally, Cowboy Action Shooting and the Single Action Shooting Society that founded the sport was “silver screen”, the Hollywood version of reliving Old West traditions set by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. In recent years more and more true Western history has become a part of the festival that has grown up with the four days of competition at the biggest annual event in Single Action Cowboy Shooting.
Members of SASS register their “alias” and are better known to each other by their adopted character names. Each wears his or her numbered badge, with member numbers now being issued above 65,000.
It is nearly 25 years since the man who wears SASS Badge #1 created the sport as a way to enjoy shooting single action six guns, lever rifles, and double barreled coach guns. “Judge Roy Bean”, or Harper Creigh in real life, is somewhat amazed at what his idea has become since he set up an IPSC match for cowboy guns. But it’s the Old West appeal that’s made Cowboy Action Shooting part competition and part festival at every match.
