NRA Black Powder Target Rifle Championships

NRA Black Powder Target Rifle Championships

The best of the nation’s black powder cartridge marksmen gather at the Whittington Center in Northern New Mexico for the National title in BPC Target competition. This is NRA sanctioned competition at distances up to 600 yards that requires the skills of the buffalo hunters from the 1870s. Championship Series Coverage of the top black powder cartridge marksmen.

Plus technical insight on what types of rifles the competitors are shooting and how they are fine tuning equipment for high accuracy.  And they’ve evolved the choice of caliber and cartridges now that the targets are paper and not buffalo.

Then the second generation checks in with a story on the newest silhouette sport to receive NRA national title status.  John Scoutten files a report on Lever Action Silhouette, the new game for fans of the classic lever action. It’s another case of everybody having a lever action rifle, but not having enough challenges to shoot. Now lever guns shoot to 200 yards on the handgun silhouette range dropping Rams, Turkeys, Pigs and Chickens.  And the new game is proving to be very popular.

Then Tom Knapp puts down his shotguns and picks up a rifle to recreate a famous movie shot. The movie sharpshooting was Hollywood magic, but Tom’s doing the shot from Winchester 73 for real, as his best impression of Jimmy Stewart. No question this one is an Impossible Shot!
