    Doug Koenig, Pro Shooter Profile

He has been called the best all around shooter alive, with an unequaled record of championships in all kinds of shooting sports. Now it’s time you knew him better as champion, sportsman, and family man. Our profile covers Doug at home and on the championship trail and reveals his secrets as one of the best prepared shooters to compete for the national titles.

You’ve seen him win time after time on Shooting USA as a professional shooter, sponsored by Smith and Wesson, Leupold and a dozen other companies. He owns a custom rifle company, offers his own custom parts for sale, and has more trophies than can fit in his trophy case. But Doug began what would become his shooting career as a hobby. After he bought his first 1911, he was introduced to IPSC shooting by the guys at the local gun shop.

His hobby turned into an obsession, practicing after work, and shooting in local tournaments on the weekends. He finally decided to leave his family’s construction business to pursue shooting full time as a professional.

Doug’s career began in 1987, but it wasn’t until he won the Springfield Trophy Challenge in 1989 that he won his first major tournament.  He was the first to shoot a perfect score at the Bianchi Cup in 1990, and now has 8 Bianchi Cups in his trophy case.  He has also won the Masters Handgun Tournament 11 times, and has had multiple wins at the Steel Challenge, the Sportsman’s Team Challenge, and the Outdoor Games.

The success that Doug has had in his career is a direct result of the time and energy that he puts into every match.  His diligent preparation, checking every barrel for accuracy, carefully building up his guns for each match, combined with his tireless practice and his intense focus during the competition, has made Doug Koenig a champion.
