The Sportsman’s Team Challenge
You will need most of your arsenal to compete: 22 rifle, 22 pistol, shotgun and a centerfire pistol. Most importantly you'll need two of your best friends to shoot as a team in the National Championship, the shooting sport designed to be fun for competitors and spectators alike. We're in San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex for the competition.

This time it’s shotguns! And pistols! And rifles!  It’s three times the challenge... with three-person teams... aiming for a three-gun national title. We’re heading to the Lone Star State, where shooting skill and team strategy share center stage in a championship shootoff called the Sportsman’s Team Challenge.

The name says it all - the Sportsman’s Team Challenge - a national competition aimed mainly at amateurs - “sportsmen”.  Three shooters make a team and each member shoots three firearms -rifle, pistol and shotgun. That’s where the “challenge” comes in.

The match begins on the steel range. More than 60 teams - 200 competitors - face off here in three events. One is rifle, with all three shooters firing .22s offhand. Targets are 40 to 90 yards. Time limits vary by class.

Pistol is the second steel event.  It’s a relay with the first shooter sprinting to the firing line, taking aim with a semi-auto .22.  The next teammate follows, knocking down steel with a 9mm pistol or larger.  Finally, the third team member shoots 4-inch squares at 35 yards.

The next three stages take competitors out to the shotgun fields for the Flurry, the Flush, and the Mixed-Bag.  In all cases, clays are flying by the teams at the rate of one every second.  It takes a good strategy and good communication between team members to come close to breaking all the clays.
