Shooting USA Profile – Allan Zitta and ZM Weapons

26-02-01Allan Zitta says he couldn’t really get the guns that he wanted, so he started making them himself, “I started with pistols and went into action shooting and then the LR was developed from competition.” Now his LR Designs are in the hands of pro shooters and elite military units in the war zones overseas.

Allan says, “Rob Leatham has one, in fact has a couple of them, he reports back to me every once in a while. He loves it, no malfunctions. In fact the last time I saw it, it was pretty dirty; I asked him to maybe clean it a little bit and he says he doesn’t have time for that.”

“Michael Voigt has them. He uses them in his training and in competition shooting, and then you have Todd Jarrett who really loves his LRs. He has long barreled ones and short barreled ones, he uses in training and also in the competition, in three-gun or rifle competition.”

The primary difference in the LR design is the location of the operating spring and rod — on top of the receiver surrounding the gas tube. The LR system runs cleaner than the Stoner-designed AR and makes possible a true folding stock.

26-02-03The entry level LR-300-SR version comes as a kit. It’s an upper assembly with a fixed stock that you assemble on your lower receiver.

With the aluminum forearm option, the kit is $1,240, or upgrade to the Nylatron forearm for 25 dollars more.

The upper kit assembly is not a controlled item under ATF rules, so you can order by mail for direct shipment to your home.

If you don’t have a lower receiver, ZM will make you a complete rifle for about five hundred dollars more.

The length adjustable folding stock is a $340 option.

26-02-04Military and Law Enforcement Units should contact Allan Zitta directly for pricing on the 11-inch, select fire, LR 300-ML-A.

Scholastic Clay Target Program Update:

26-02-02It has to be considered the most effective youth shooting program yet. The Scholastic Clay Target Program, created by the National Shooting Sports Foundation is just five years old after starting in Tennessee with three teams of youngsters shooting trap competition.

This year, 107 teams shot at the Tennessee State Championship and many of those teams are officially Varsity Sports Teams from their High Schools.

And Tennessee is far from the only state now with SCTP programs involving youngsters in the shooting sports. The Scholastic Clay Target Program now has close to 10,000 shooters nation-wide and 1,300 coaches who are involved in the program.

As SCTP continues to grow, the NSSF is introducing families to the competition who have not had any prior experience with firearms and the shooting sports. The NSSF knows, that alone, is highly beneficial for the industry.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program is now operating in 41 states, with 1,500 of the best young trap shooters competing in the national finals at the Grand American.
