Bianchi Cup
The Bianchi Cup was created 29 years ago as a police competition. The four stages of fire show their origins in law enforcement training, but those stages have long since become world famous events. Bianchi Cup competition is all about accuracy under tight time limits. Competitors have only a few seconds to get their shots off at each position.
On the Practical, Barricades, and Mover stages, competitors take 48 at shots at the bulls-eye target. That makes a perfect score 480 points, with all shots in the eight inch - ten ring. Each hit inside the four inch black center count as one X. At the Falling Plates, each plate down is 10 points and an X.
The four stages add up to 1920 possible points and 192 possible X’s, and there are several competitors here capable of scoring all 1920 points. The X count then becomes the tie-breaker. That kind of accuracy means just one miss can take you from cup contender to the middle of the pack.
As famous as the Bianchi stages of fire have become, as NRA Action Pistol Shooting has spread beyond the USA, this year bring a major change as the traditional “tombstone” targets are printed with black target rings and a black center Bullseye. Going into the championship competition everyone believes the new targets will significantly change the scores at every skill level.
