The Masters Championship

27-09-1To win you must master three disciplines of pistol shooting: Olympic Pistol, Handgun Silhouette, and Action Pistol Shooting. For those who can compete in all three sports, the best will be the Masters Champion.

The idea was to create a match that tested three completely different kinds of pistol shooting. Olympic Freestyle, Handgun Silhouette, and Action Pistol shooting. The idea was to bring competitors from each discipline to one location to determine who is the Master of handgun shooting. 22 years later, the Masters International Championship is still testing anyone who comes to shoot one of the most difficult matches in the world, at PASA park in Barry Illinois.

27-09-2Competition begins on the precision event. This is off-hand accuracy shooting with a 22 rimfire.

Targets are 25 and 50 meters away and are either four inches in diameter, or two inches across when the precision bulls-eye is switched. There are 45 total targets on the event, and every shot is taken under tight time limits. Some with as little as three seconds to aim and fire.

At the Long Range Event competitors use high powered rifle rounds to knock down 45 steel plates. Targets range from 75 yards, out to 200 yards, with the close targets shot from the standing position, the distant targets shot freestyle, prone.

27-09-3The match wraps-up with the Action event. This is a speed discipline with competitors drawing centerfire pistols from holsters to knock down steel plates. Each shooter will fire three times at three different sets of plates. Fastest total time wins the event.

The three events test shooting skills in all forms of competition and the challenges are difficult. In 22 years, no one has shot the match clean, scoring all the targets.
