The USPSA Nationals

27-11-1We’ve got ugly weather and high drama to get to a  national championship title. It’s the Production and Limited nationals in the mud of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

There is no doubt the United States Practical Shooting Association has given us some of the most exciting action we cover, but this year’s championships may have set a new record for drama. The pressure is always on to win the national titles in Revolver, Production, and Limited competition. Now add challenging stages of fire and some really nasty weather and you’ve got the formula for one of the most exciting matches in recent history.

27-11-2The United States Practical Shooting Association has created shooting divisions for each type of handgun.

The Limited Division allows highly evolved, high capacity, semi-autos that usually are based on the venerable 1911 design. Limited guns may not use an optic or a compensator to help control recoil. Most often Limited guns are chambered in .40 S&W.

Production Division shooters, with off-the-shelf factory guns, compete with a lower power factor. 9mm is the preferred caliber and magazine capacity is limited to ten rounds.

27-11-3The Revolver Division allows competition for those who prefer the wheel gun, competing to see who will finish second, behind Jerry Miculek.

There are National Championships for each Division and corporate bragging rights that go with a National Title keep the pressure on the best handgun shooters in the country.

Just like in auto racing, win on Sunday, sell guns on Monday.
