IDPA Winter Nationals

Shooting USA - IDPA Winter Nationals

27-18-1It’s cold outside, but hot on the inside of the Smith and Wesson Shooting Sports Center for the IDPA Indoor Nationals.

Each year the IDPA Winter Championship has brought a sell-out crowd to the Smith and Wesson Shooting Sports Center. Last year’s tenth anniversary match was a huge success, with an extra day added to handle the number of competitors.

This year is more of the same with three full days of competition. And now there is more on the line than just a winter-time match. It’s now a National Title Match, with the top competitors in Springfield to shoot for the championship.

27-18-2Robert Ray of the IDPA says the S&W Winter match has helped expand the appeal of their sport, “With Smith and Wesson’s continued support of IDPA, this match has always been the second largest IDPA match in the country, so we decided to get in partnership with Smith and Wesson and make this a national level event.”

The official designation is now The Smith & Wesson Indoor National Championships and that’s brought out the best in the sport to compete for the titles in the five divisions defined by the choice of carry gun.

27-18-3Stock Service Pistol – Stock Double Action / Safe Action factory pistols such as Glock, Beretta, S&W M&P, Ruger, Browning and Sig.

Enhanced Service Pistol – for Single Action 9mm / 38 Super / 40 S&W service pistols, such as the Browning HP, EAA Witness, and 1911 pattern pistols.

Custom Defensive Pistol – 45 Auto single stack pistols and Hi Cap models in 45 such as Para, STI, SVI and Glock 20 / 21 models.

Stock Service Revolver – for popular service revolvers loaded with speed loaders or one round at a time.

Enhanced Service Revolver - revolvers loaded using moon clips.

Within each division, competitors are ranked by skill level and compete in their classes for match awards: Novice, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, and Master.
