End of Trail, 2009
It is the Super Bowl, the World Series, the pinnacle of the sport. End of Trail is as big as it gets in the Single Action Shooting Society. But when a handful of cowboy action shooters started SASS, nearly three decades ago, they had no idea what their creation would eventually become. They thought they’d be lucky to get 5,000 members. Now there are nearly 90,000 issued membership badges and recorded cowboy aliases. When the membership gets together at End of Trail, it is now one big family reunion.
Take a big step back in time, back to the Wild, Wild West, where six-guns rule, bad guys wear black, and the posse always gets its man. Welcome to New Mexico, to Founders Ranch, the high desert home of End of Trail. This is the annual World Championship match of the Single Action Shooting Society.
There is no denying the appeal of putting on an oversized hat, and a pair of boots, to live out the role of your cowboy alias. That’s part of what makes the Single Action Shooting Society one of the great success stories in the shooting sports. And the End of Trail celebration of the western lifestyle, and world championships of cowboy action shooting is the place to be for cowboy and cowgirl action shooters.
End of Trail at Founders Ranch has become a significant tourist event, bringing in thousands of visitors from across the United States, in addition to a thousand SASS members shooting for National Titles in a wide range of categories.
